I’m sitting here, in the beautiful home of dear friends in the highlands of Scotland, looking out the window at lush greenery, listening and watching the heavy summer rain pour down. I’m house, garden and chicken sitting for them while they are away on their holidays and relishing the homesteading setting in a village familiar to me from childhood.
When I was between the ages of 13-25, my parents and grandparents co-owned a static holiday caravan on a campsite by a river in this village. My grandparents passed away many moons ago, but what I notice, when I come here, is that my memories of them are so much more alive than they are in the city where we all lived. Perhaps a more liberated version of them has made these memories feel vibrant.
And here I find myself again, in a full circle moment, in the company of a little river, with orchards, mosquitos, bees, and huge rainbows, walking in between summer rain showers in the forest I used to walk in as a young woman.
I feel like I can touch her aliveness in the places I went as if there is no bridge of time between us.
That’s a tiny window view into my summer so far…I hope you’re finding pockets of sun and stories that are alive, in among the showers where ever you may be.
