Home is where the {...........} is
new 4-week workshop series + HYDRATE on February 18th
I’ve been thinking a lot about home and sanctuary this last month. It’s a theme that has appeared repeatedly for me over many years, likely the result of having lived such a nomadic life and feeling called to many places.
It began as a chapter in my book, Language of the Feminine, chapter seven, The Language of Home and Sanctuary, with questions like;
Where do you feel at home? Where do you belong? Are you at home in your body? Are you at home in your country or with who you are?
Then questions like: What does being ‘at home’ in a place, with a person or with oneself, really feel like? Where and what is ‘home’ in the most expansive sense of the word? And in the everyday, practical, human sense of the word? From where did your understanding and sense of home originate?
(FYI There’s a ‘Pleasure Project’ at the end of the book chapter with some simple questions and a guided energy/visualisation practice to do).
This theme continued as a module in my online programme, The Language of You - participants explored Home & Sanctuary in relationship to the ‘essence’ (or Language as I call it), of who they are individually.
And most recently, I chose Home & Sanctuary as the theme for our HYDRATE online creative writing workshop in January.
We are clearly not done with this theme!
THE CREATIVE FOUNTAIN
There are so many meanings and aspects within this theme to dig into that hold treasure for our personal and creative lives. So, I wanted to create a container that could offer time and space for deeper exploration. A map to help you navigate through meaningful questions and guide and encourage you to produce creative fruits from it.
HOME & SANCTUARY - is A 4-WEEK CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP SERIES to explore these themes of home, sanctuary and belonging.
From every self-discovery deep dive, there is a creative fountain waiting to be unplugged to flow through the forms that call to you now (in this case, we’re weaving words, but you may find yourself wanting to channel that creative energy in multiple ways, including creating a sanctuary space or rearranging your own home, I’ll share more about this in the class).
In a world of never-ending epic change, of climate chaos creating environmental refugees, of the changing shape of intimate relationships and traditional roles; new questions arise about what home means, about roots, security, freedom, connection and belonging.
We’ll deep dive into FOUR different aspects of home and sanctuary:
Week 1 - Place/environment/nature
Week 2 - Body/soul/self
Week 3 - People/other/relationships
Week 4 - Spirituality/Sense of connectedness to something ‘expansive’ or ‘greater than’
Home & Sanctuary is a space to unearth potent creative writing, vivid with colour and life, that also works as a place of self-discovery offering guidance into the roots of what home and sanctuary means for you personally, and/or the stories you are working with or would love to create.
The workshop series will be both joyful and deep, taking you on unexpected journeys. As you move through the series, you’ll find each workshop expands and deepens your perspective on the theme as a whole which in turn will infuse your exploration and writing with greater meaning and insight.
WHAT COULD YOU CREATE?
Here are just some of the possibilities of what you might create from this series:
You might be a fictional writer wanting to develop your characters and discover more about what home means to them.
You might love to journal and write for self-discovery to explore this theme in-depth for yourself.
You might wish to write more poetry and create dozens of new poems through which you share fresh perspectives on nature, place, self-acceptance, belonging, connection and more.
You might find healing through writing about a relationship with someone you’ve lost that sense of ‘home’ with.
You might create a new blog post, newsletter or article to publish that helps others to find a sense of ‘home’ in their lives, or to create a sanctuary space within their home…
The possibilities are endless and,
IDEAS will be generated in unexpected ways…
Harmony (see below) came to our Home & Sanctuary themed writing class and had a profound experience through her journal writing. She also got ideas for marketing her business.*
“Each prompt was wonderful on its own and yet they built into an unexpected deep and profound experience of journal writing as I discovered some things I did not know about my journey along with some ideas for next steps. I also got some clarity on my biz marketing content as well. All in all (it was) an extraordinary workshop, thank you!” - Harmony - HYDRATE online creative writing workshop on Home & Sanctuary
*(Please note, I’m not teaching anything about marketing in this workshop series! I share this point to demonstrate that it can be surprising what ideas emerge for each person in multiple forms).
The series will be held on Thursday evenings 7-9pm UK time beginning on March 13th (there will be recordings if you can’t make it to all the LIVE sessions, although this will be encouraged to foster connection and co-creation).
And, as with all of my writing-focused workshops, I do occasionally include embodied movement or other sensory and somatic practices because all of these things ENHANCE our writing.

This morning, I realized that two of my all-time favourite writers are, in a way, my creative ancestors, because we grapple with similar questions and themes. Needless to say, I had to join the Hydrating session, with the theme of ancestors. I love how things work... Can't wait to write together. Thank you so much for putting this great opportunity together.
