I’m currently exploring the element of water in relationship to menstrual cycles. Spending time by the sea, swimming and paddling in it - poems come to me, as if drawn on the sounds of waves.
Sustenance I smell sustenance by the sea. Freedom in the sound of water lapping, a salty haar gently coating my skin. My eyes rest on open vista, mystery held in a blue-world beneath my feet. I end here and something else begins beyond the smallness of my humanity. This sharp spike of dune grass pricks me back to now. - Jane Alexandra Cormack
A recent sea visit…*
The Sea Sings
The sea sings,
but only to me.
Not to the young couple - her,
wearing a mint beanie,
their golden retriever
sniffing salt air.
The sea sings only to me,
in my private sea garden.
My body responds,
exhaling, slowly
sinking into sand.
The sea is singing
but, only to me.

Jewel of the Sea
I lost
my amber and silver ring
to the sea.
Playing in the waves,
she saw my jewel
sparkling in the sunlight
and gently pulled it off
for a closer look.
Then decided
to keep it for herself.

May you find your sustenance, substance or song in the waters that run near you.

I’m writing a bit less on substack at the moment as I focus my energy on the development of other related projects. I imagine I’ll write about once a month while in this phase, and perhaps more if inspiration arises!
These are beautiful, Jane. I wanted to pick a favorite but can't. Maybe "Jewel of the Sea." I also love the video clip; did you take it? Happy I got to your site! Nice chat in LWS's break out today. Hugs.
