A New Writers' Circle + Poll + a Tiny Prompt
To cultivate curiosity, creativity, wonder and presence
I’m inviting something new this week and I’d like your input into it!
In this letter is:
An introduction to a monthly Tiny Prompt Live Online Writers’ Circle
A Poll for your feedback on the timings of the circle
A change in rhythm to how often I send Tiny Prompts
This week’s Tiny Prompt which you’ll find at the end
TINY PROMPTS ONLINE MONTHLY WRITERS’ CIRCLE
I plan to offer one LIVE short online writing circle (on Zoom) per month to work on a Tiny Prompt together. I’ve received requests from some of you, that you’d like to play with these prompts in a group. So, I’m going to offer a 45-50 minute online session once per month to meet and write together based on a prompt.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
We’ll have a warm meet and greet in my Zoom room
I’ll guide you in a short presencing exercise
I’ll introduce a 2-part Tiny Prompt
We will write for between 20-30 minutes (depending on initial timing)
We’ll take time to connect and share at the end
We’ll come full circle, notice what’s different, then close the circle
WHY JOIN THE GROUP?
Yes, you can of course do the prompts on your own at home, but the benefits of joining a live group are many.
Aside from seeing lots of lovely faces from around the UK and the world, our presencing exercise will help you settle in and become more aware of your body, energy, and emotional world - inward awareness before outward expression.
You’ll be exposed to the collective creative energy of the group which I find, often opens up our creative expression even more. And, we will hear each other’s voices and have time at the end for connection, to share our experience and/or the writing. There’s never any pressure to share your writing and it’s also a good opportunity to practice reading your work aloud in front of an intimate group of keen and compassionate listeners.
Sessions will last 45-50 minutes and will be a low cost to join. Most prompts will be nature-based to help foster a sense of ecological belonging and reverence for the natural world.
TIMING
I’d love your feedback on timing! So I've created a poll to hear your preferences on what time of day to host this Tiny Prompts Writers’ Circle (I may change the name but this is it for now). The day will be a Tuesday.
It would be so helpful if you would take a moment to click on your preference below (if you’d love to join us). The poll will be open for only three days. Use this time converter if you’re in a different time zone from the UK:
The first proposed Tiny Prompts Writers’ Circle is on Tuesday 10th of June.
REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF TINY PROMPTS
I’m going to reduce the amount of Tiny Prompts I send you from weekly, to twice per month, with a once per month invitation to join a live Tiny Prompts Writers’ Circle, so as not to overwhelm your inboxes. The second prompt will be sent after the live circle has happened. Plus I have a number of new offerings quietly brewing that I will share in due course.
So! Without further ado…
Welcome to this week’s Tiny Prompt - pause now, get your notepad and pen and take 10 minutes to focus and enjoy creating. Afterwards, pause again, and notice how taking this time to create has shifted your mental, emotional, physical or energetic state.
If you’ve already read the introduction below, jump straight to the prompt underneath.
Tiny prompts offer you new ways of noticing and coming into contact with the world through your senses. They guide you to cultivate wonder, curiosity, creativity and presence by becoming more intimate with your environment and the life around you. And when you re-discover the magic in everyday existence, your creativity comes to life.
Twice a month on a Wednesday, I’ll share a tiny prompt to stimulate your senses and spark your creativity awake.
You’ll receive either:
an image
a sound clip
a video
a word
And a tiny prompt to spark your writing/creativity.
Prompts may be offered in the spirit of fun and joy, depth and beauty or pleasure and succulence; they may be soulful, philosophical, serendipitous, sensual or simple and sometimes offer perspectives on the shadow and light aspects of life.
Tiny prompts are taken from my in the world explorations of the things I notice in everyday life, with an emphasis on the natural world, to encourage fresh thought and new perspectives for your creativity.
THE INVITATION
The invitation is to use the prompt to write or create in the form you most love for at least 10 minutes per week. Write a poem, a story, an article, song lyrics or use the prompt for personal journaling. If you’re a multi-media creator, it might inspire a print, a drawing or painting, a dress design or a piece of jewellery - take the prompt and create in whichever way lights you up. (The prompts will mostly be writing/story focused, however, ONE SPARK, can create multiple expressions).
WHY?
It’s not about creating something polished, or even completing anything, but rather staying open to what could emerge. Our senses connect us to the world around us. Our imaginations and creative lives need continued nourishment. Consider the prompts an opportunity to wonder, to explore and gather sparks of stories, thoughts and ideas for your personal library of creativity.
Feel welcome to share how the tiny prompts spark your creativity in the comments section for each one.
Enjoy!
